SKU: N/A Category:

Buckram bookbinding paper is a durable covering material for handmade books, journals, albums and restoration projects.

This durable buckram is a professional-grade bookbinding cloth designed for strong, long-lasting covers and spines. It has a finely textured woven surface with a stiff, stable structure that resists stretching, scuffing, and everyday wear — making it ideal for journals, ledgers, albums, boxes, and hardbound books.

Buckram is trusted by libraries and traditional binders because it holds up beautifully over time while still being workable with standard bookbinding adhesives and techniques. It wraps cleanly over board edges, takes glue well, and gives your finished books a crisp, structured look.

Available in a range of rich, solid colours. Perfect for both classic and modern binding projects.

Using Buckram for Book Covers

Measure the cover boards and spine before cutting, then allow enough material to turn neatly over every edge. A sharp craft knife, metal ruler and clean cutting surface help produce straight edges. For a traditional case binding, prepare the cover structure with suitable bookbinding chipboard before attaching the cloth.

Apply an even, controlled layer of bookbinding adhesive to avoid wet patches or ridges. Smooth the buckram from the centre outward, keeping the weave straight and removing trapped air before the adhesive begins to set. Fold the corners carefully and press the cover flat while drying.

Projects Suited to Buckram

  • Hardback journals and notebooks
  • Photo albums, portfolios and presentation books
  • Library-style re-covers and spine repairs
  • Recipe books, guest books and ledgers
  • Protective boxes and slipcases

Choosing a Colour and Finish

Solid colours give the finished book a clean professional appearance and work well with printed labels, decorative paper, foil details or bookplates. Colours can appear slightly different between screens, so consider the surrounding paper, thread and endpaper colours when planning a coordinated project.

Care and Storage

Keep unused buckram rolled or stored flat in a clean, dry place. Protect it from moisture, direct sunlight, dust and sharp folds. Before gluing a large project, test your adhesive and handling method on a small offcut.
