Awl Guide 2xSet

R187.95

An awl guide is a bookbinding tool that helps you mark and punch sewing holes that are evenly spaced and aligned across your signatures. It removes the guesswork from hole placement and makes your sewing neater and more consistent from book to book.

By using an awl guide, you can:
• Keep your stitch spacing even
• Ensure holes line up from one signature to the next
• Improve the overall look of your sewn bindings
• Reduce mistakes and re-punching

This tool is especially helpful for bindings such as:
• Pamphlet stitch
• Saddle stitch
• Coptic stitch
• Japanese stab binding
• Case binding sewing

This set is sized for A5 signatures and includes two spacing options:
• 1.27 cm
• 0.63 cm

Different spacing allows you to choose between a more open stitch look or a tighter, more detailed stitch pattern, depending on your project and thread choice.

Whether you are just starting out or making books regularly, an awl guide helps you work faster and with more confidence, while keeping your holes neat and properly positioned.

Important: Choosing the Right Needle

When making holes in paper with the awl guide, it is best to use the same needle that you will be sewing with. This guide is designed for thinner bookbinding needles. Standard awls—including the awl sold on our site—do not fit through the guide holes.

As shown in the included pictures, you can insert your sewing needle into a craft-knife handle in place of the blade and use the handle to push the needle through the paper. Make sure the needle is held securely, and take care when working with the craft knife.
